The Shed is a modern and contemporary eating restaurant situated in a beautifully restored building right in the heart of Barry’s proud industrial quarter. It will provide a unique setting where customers can enjoy the quality food and service that will be provided by James Sommerin and his Staff.
Open October 14th 2020
Behind this new venture are husband and wife teams, James and Louise Sommerin and Liam Murphy and Sarah Weaver. This is a thoroughly Welsh team who live and breathe all things Welsh and this will be clear in all aspects of the business. Liam introduced this project to James back in 2018 and now some two and a half years later, we are about to open!
Our ethos is to provide really good, unusual food at a price point that everyone can enjoy on a regular basis. The unique location of the Goodsheds will provide a wonderful setting and atmosphere for enjoying the restaurant. We are proud to have used local craftsmen who have constructed the entire restaurant to be as sympathetic to its setting and heritage.
We have used locally sourced and reclaimed materials to show the important connection between the Shed’s industrial past and present and the role this plays in creating a sense of community and integration. We sourced the wood for the tables tops from original timber reclaimed from the Barry Docks area and slate for the bar and pass has come from old snooker tables!
Promoting local Welsh produce will be a central tenet of The Shed’s ethos, working with dedicated local suppliers who will share our commitment to delivering excellence and sustainability for the long-term viability of this project and the wider local economy. We even have our own chickens and bees!
The Shed will provide a training ground in Michelin cooking techniques which will be applied to the food offering and this method of cooking will provide unrivalled excellence in this area. Our food will be innovative, fresh, unusual and seasonal.
