I’m Hayley, fashion designer and mum of 2. I’ve lived in Barry all my life except whilst studying in London and Edinburgh. I studied for a fashion design degree at London College of Fashion as well as a fashion marketing masters’ degree at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh. I then worked in commercial retail management for 15 years.
Zac and Bella came about while on Maternity leave with my youngest, Isabella in 2016. I started sewing dresses for her and after lots of lovely comments I decided to start selling my designs. Zac and Bella became my full time job in September 2016.
In 2017 I won the ‘Best Newcomer’ award at the Business Growth South Wales awards and later that year I was one of former dragons’ den star Theo Paphitis’s Small Business Sunday winners. The brand has grown online since then and I’m now very excited to be on the Makers Carriage at the Goodsheds.
I’m so proud that Zac and Bella clothing is made from ethically sourced fabric, and all designed by me (with a little help from the kids!) Baby and Children’s clothing and accessories which are fun, practical and unique is at the heart of the brand as well as the concept of ‘Slow fashion’. All items are made by hand on The Makers carriage – you can watch me sewing while you browse! My clothing is designed to be practical, gender neutral and long lasting so they can be handed down again and again. As well as making and selling Zac and Bella on the carriage, I hope to welcome you in for sewing workshops in the near future.
